Earlier this week I posted a free toddler and preschool Snowflake journal. My girls have been working on their journals and doing several winter-themed activities.
1. We built “snow forts” and buildings with sugar cubes. We might pull this out again and add frosting and try to make an igloo.
2. Worked on a couple Snowflake Journal pages.
3. Watched it snow. We also observed frost and talked about snow crystals.
4. Made homemade vapor rub. Great to have on-hand during the winter!
5. Painted snow. They loved this. They also loved playing with the snow as it melted. I also had to keep telling a certain child of mine to quit eating the painted snow!
6. My 7 yr. old made colored shaped ice-cubes for her sisters to play with. They also enjoyed this activity but it is messy! My 5 yr. old also wanted to make her own set of shaped ice- cubes but we left out the food coloring this time. They stacked the shapes, made patterns, swirled around the melting ice to mix colors and enjoyed freezing their hands while holding the cubes . We also took 1 ice cube and placed it in a cup with salt, took another ice cube and placed it in a cup with sugar, and places 1 ice cup in another cup as is– to see which would melt faster.
7. We made an ice-wreath and hung it on our tree. We filled a circle chip & dip tray with water (just the outer rim part) and added blueberries and food coloring. If you can find natural items (everything is buried in snow here) you could add berries, dried herbs, etc. to the wreath.
